Bennet Statement on Supreme Court Decision in West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox

Jun 30, 2026 | Press Releases

Denver - Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet released a statement following the Supreme Court's decision in West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox:

"Today's decision is a setback for LGBTQ+ Americans and another cruel step in President Trump's Supreme Court targeting transgender people. This ruling allowing state bans targets a small group of people and sends a message that transgender students do not belong, increasing the risk of harassment and bullying.

"I have been clear that I oppose efforts like Colorado Ballot Initiative 109, which aims to ban transgender students from participating in sports that align with their gender identity. I will continue to fight to ensure every Coloradan feels safe, respected, and included in school life, regardless of how they identify."
