Cybersecurity Tip of the Week – Be Careful What You Throw Away

Cybersecurity doesn't stop at your computer; it extends to your trash can. Financial statements, prescription labels, shipping labels, receipts, insurance documents, and even old printed boarding passes can contain enough personal information for someone to steal your identity or answer security questions. Before tossing documents in the trash or recycling bin, take a moment to review what information they contain. Shred anything with account numbers, addresses, medical information, or other sensitive details. Don't forget about shipping boxes, which often display your name, address, and the types of products you purchased. A few minutes spent disposing of personal information securely can help prevent identity theft and protect both you and your family from becoming a target.
