The City of West Hollywood is committed to providing accessible facilities, programs, and services to all residents and visitors, in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and applicable California accessibility standards. The City, in partnership with Disability Access Consultants (DAC), a recognized leader in accessibility compliance, is currently embarking on Accessible West Hollywood, which is a comprehensive ADA evaluation and transition plan to assess current conditions, identify barriers to accessibility, and develop a realistic and cost-effective plan to remove barriers.
Phase One of the project has begun and will continue through August 30, 2025. This includes sidewalk and facilities inspections (currently underway); a review of City policies, programs, and services; surveys of City employees aimed at identifying internal accessibility needs; and field inspections of parks, public rights-of-way, and City-owned facilities.
In addition, Phase One features a community survey to assist West Hollywood community members in providing feedback about accessibility. Members of the public are encouraged to take part in this survey, which is provided on the City's Engage WeHo engagement portal at engage.weho.org/accessibleweho. This website area features a project overview, timeline, survey link, and details; the survey will be open until August 30, 2025.
For community members who prefer a hard-copy survey, printed copies of the survey are available at West Hollywood City Hall, the West Hollywood Park Aquatic and Recreation Center, and the Plummer Park Community Center. For those who need assistance completing the survey, require an alternative format, or have questions about the City's ongoing ADA efforts, please send an email message to hr@weho.org or risk@weho.org.
Phase Two will include the development of an ADA Transition Plan, which will include analyzing findings from the self-evaluation and field surveys; incorporating community feedback; and outlining priorities, costs, and timelines to remove barriers.
The City of West Hollywood is committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of ability, can access and benefit from City programs, services, and facilities. Under Title II of the ADA, public entities are required to evaluate their services, policies, and facilities for compliance with federal and state accessibility standards. This plan will help the City identify and address barriers in City-owned/operated buildings and facilities; public parks; sidewalks and curb ramps; parking lots; and public rights-of-way. The self-evaluation and transition plan will guide the City in improving accessibility and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
