The opening of the Meeting of Heads of Diplomatic Missions and Consular Offices of the Republic of Moldova abroad took place today in Chișinău, bringing together Moldova's ambassadors accredited overseas. The event is dedicated to assessing foreign policy priorities and coordinating diplomatic actions.
At the opening of the meeting, President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu outlined the main directions of foreign policy for 2026 and stressed that the regional and international context, marked by an increase in hybrid threats, remains complex. At the same time, the Head of State highlighted the need to intensify political dialogue and actively promote Moldova's interests and image in European Union member states.
"In these geopolitical conditions, the Republic of Moldova has only one realistic strategy for survival as a democratic, free, and sovereign state: accession to the European Union. This objective represents an absolute priority of both domestic and foreign policy," stated President Maia Sandu.
In turn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi emphasized the role of diplomacy in advancing the interests of the Republic of Moldova and strengthening cooperation with external partners.
"Even in a challenging international context, our country has demonstrated its ability to move forward. We have political stability, reliable partners, and real opportunities that must be jointly leveraged through active, coherent, and results-oriented diplomacy," the Minister noted.
The annual meeting of heads of diplomatic missions and consular offices of the Republic of Moldova abroad provides a framework for analyzing regional and global developments, strengthening interinstitutional coordination, and setting priorities for the activities of diplomatic missions and consular offices for the period ahead, with a focus on advancing Moldova's European integration path, as well as ensuring the country's security and economic development.
