November 7, 2025 - The reopening date of the Grace A. Dow Memorial Library has been moved from the previously estimated date of November 17 to November 24, pending construction progress. In preparation for the reopening of the main building, located at 1710 W. St. Andrews Rd., the temporary City Hall Branch will close on November 21.
"We are thrilled to have the community back in the Library building before Thanksgiving," said Library Director Miriam Andrus. "Anyone who has lived through construction knows that it always seems to take longer than anticipated, and the work we are doing at the Library is no different. We understand opening with limited access to areas is an inconvenience for our community, and we greatly appreciate the public's patience as we work to complete these interior improvements. Although we are disappointed to announce that our exterior landscaping and drive-thru book drop projects are delayed until Spring 2026 due to materials shortages, we do anticipate that we will be able to keep the Library open during that project as our interior projects will be completed thanks to additional funding we have received from City Council. While some areas will still be under construction, we wanted to ensure patrons could return to the Library in time for the holiday season."
The Library will reopen with limited access as interior construction continues, following the completion of an extensive roof construction project. Additional funding of $400,000 from City Council has allowed for an expanded scope of interior projects, meaning certain areas of the building will remain temporarily closed. This ongoing work will bring exciting improvements to the Library, including enhanced spaces and services that will benefit the community for years to come.
When the Library reopens, patrons will have access to the main lobby and portions of the main floor. The lower level, including the children's department and play area, will remain closed for construction. Additionally, the MidLab will be closed as work continues on its new main floor location.
Patrons seeking materials from the children's area can browse from a limited selection on the main level, or request items for pickup by placing a hold through the Library's catalog online, or by speaking to members of the Reference staff in-person or by calling 989-837-3449.
The Library will continue the following hours until interior construction is complete: Monday-Thursday 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed Saturday and Sunday.
The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library is a service of the City of Midland. Updates on the completion of interior construction will continue to be shared through the Library's website and social media channels. For more information about the library, visit www.gadml.org or call 989-837-3430.
