WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) today released the below statement on the two-year anniversary of the brutal attacks in Israel that killed more than one thousand innocent civilians, including American citizens:
"Two years ago today, Hamas terrorists crossed into Israel and murdered 1,200 innocent people in their homes, neighborhoods, and at a music festival. I will never forget the horrific atrocities committed in what was the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. I will also never forget the 251 hostages that were taken into Gaza on that day, 48 of whom remain there today, and the stories of the hostage families that I have met with.
"Today, the chance for peace is in the hands of Hamas. They must decide whether they care more about wellbeing of the people of Gaza than their own quest for power and murderous aims against the State of Israel. President Trump's historic peace proposal has been accepted by Israel and by our allies and partners across the Middle East and the world. It is long past time for Hamas to lay down its arms, release the 48 remaining hostages, and accept the generous peace deal before them.
"I will continue to stand with the Jewish people and the State of Israel."
