Town of Apple Valley's Measure P Oversight Committee Holds First Meeting

Apple Valley, CA - May 8, 2025 - The Town of Apple Valley held its first meeting of the Measure P Oversight Committee on Tuesday, May 6, in Town Council Chambers. The citizen-led committee was formed to ensure transparency and accountability in how the Town spends revenue from Measure P, the voter-approved 1% sales tax increase.

During the meeting, committee members took their oaths of office, selected a Chair and Vice-Chair, and received a presentation on the Town's General Fund and projected Measure P revenues. One of the key items discussed was a recommendation to enhance law enforcement staffing through an adjustment to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's contract, presented by Apple Valley Police Captain Tim Visosky.

The proposed additions include:

  • 1 Sergeant
  • 8 Deputies as follows:
    • 2 Multiple Enforcement Team (MET) deputies focused on quality-of-life issues such as illegal marijuana grows and homeless encampments
    • 1 DUI enforcement deputy
    • 1 Acting Detective to support training and promotional opportunities
    • 4 additional patrol deputies
  • 1 Sheriff's Service Specialist

After reviewing the proposal, the committee voted to endorse the staffing recommendation and will forward its recommendation to the Apple Valley Town Council for consideration.

"This committee reflects the voice of our residents," said Mayor Scott Nassif. "Measure P was passed because our community wanted to invest in local priorities like public safety, roads, and essential services. These committee members will help ensure those funds are spent responsibly and in alignment with what voters intended."

"The recommendation we presented is focused on improving response times, increasing patrol coverage, and ultimately making Apple Valley safer," said Captain Tim Visosky. "Measure P gives us the opportunity to enhance our services in a meaningful way, and this proposal is a step in that direction."

The meeting also included a Brown Act overview to help committee members understand their responsibilities under state transparency laws.

Measure P was approved by Apple Valley voters in 2024 to generate local funding for essential Town services. The Oversight Committee will meet regularly to review how those funds are allocated and report back to the community.
