Introducing Dr. Brian Schulte, Valius's Chief Medical Officer

Last week, Dr. Brian Schulte joined Valius as Chief Medical Officer.

Brian is a hematologist-oncologist who has devoted his career to caring for patients with rare diseases and pushing forward novel, personalized therapies. Most recently, he served as the medical director of the Sarcoma Program, adult infusion services, and the cancer acute care center at the University of California, San Francisco, where he will retain an affiliation.

Brian's expertise will help power Valius's next phase as we scale from hundreds to thousands of patients and beyond.

"Our goal is to deliver the future of oncology to patients today," said Edward Larkin, Valius's CEO. "To do that, we need knowledgeable, bold, and innovative thinkers. Brian fits the bill perfectly. His background treating diverse sarcomas gives him a deep knowledge of and appreciation for biomarker-selected therapies that can succeed across cancer types, which aligns perfectly with our vision."

Brian earned his medical degree at the Medical College of Wisconsin, with Alpha Omega Alpha honors, after graduating from Duke University with a degree in biomedical engineering. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Colorado and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine, where he was chief fellow.

"Valius understands where the future of oncology is going," Brian said. "Treatment is increasingly defined by tumor biology rather than site of origin, and rigorous diagnostics now let us tailor treatment plans to a growing range of patients. Valius provides the extraordinarily detailed data to enable patients and their providers to make the most informed treatment decisions."

Bringing on a Chief Medical Officer reflects Valius's ongoing effort to enhance the impact of our diagnostics for patients with rare or aggressive cancers.

Our maximalist diagnostics surface more detailed information and therapeutic options than standard, limited testing. Brian will give patients and their care teams the support they need to take advantage of our findings.

"Patients with rare and difficult-to-treat cancers have always been at the center of my work," Brian said. "I'm excited about Valius's role in powering better outcomes for those patients."

"Brian brings the perspective of a clinician and a researcher, but he also brings the perspective of the thousands of patients he's worked with," said Sarah Hesse, Valius's Chief Scientific Officer. "He will help us do more for our patients so that, as the cutting edge of research and treatment evolves, they can trust that their care will keep pace."
