Prime Minister Kristen Michal to attend extraordinary European Council meeting in Brussels

Stenbock House, 22 January 2026 - Prime Minister Kristen Michal will attend an extraordinary informal European Council meeting in Brussels today, focusing on transatlantic relations and the situation related to Greenland.

"Strong transatlantic relations are a core value for Estonia and Europe. It is clear that issues between allies must be resolved through dialogue, in the spirit of our close transatlantic relationship," the Prime Minister said.

"The purpose of today's meeting is to discuss developments and the way forward. Europe is ready to stand up for its principles and interests. National borders and sovereignty are not for sale. Estonia stands with the Kingdom of Denmark and the people of Greenland," Michal added.

He stressed the importance of maintaining a strong focus on supporting Ukraine and exerting relentless pressure on Russia.

European heads of government will convene in Brussels at 20:00 Estonian time.
