LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) received and distributed more than 95 care kits of essential items for veterans experiencing homelessness from the Knights of Columbus (K of C) Fourth Degree Assembly 2982.
"We see immediate impact with these donations," said MVAA homeless veteran coordinator Cassie Smith. "Veterans feel seen, supported and reminded that they are not alone in their journey."
After hearing about the MVAA's efforts of collecting care kits for veterans experiencing homelessness, K of C funded and assembled more than 95 care kits. Smith then took the donations and delivered them to Volunteers of America for distribution.
Essential items in care kits may include:
"The Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly 2982 are men who have chosen to embrace our fourth principle of patriotism to reach out to veterans and active military," said K of C member Jim Sigmon. "We strive to embody the fact that one can be a faithful Catholic and citizen."
