Tuberville Takes Action to Prevent Fraud in Child Care Following Somali Disaster in Minnesota

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Chair of the Senate Subcommittee on Education and the American Family and Co-Chair of a task force aimed at eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in education, released draft legislation to eliminate fraud and abuse of federal child care funding after it was revealed that Somali immigrants stole billions of dollars from American taxpayers in the form of fake "daycare centers." The draft legislation is currently being circulated to relevant stakeholders and will be officially introduced following their feedback. Their responses are due by April 8, 2026.

"American families have been robbed for far too long," said Senator Tuberville. "We need to find the source of this abuse and cut it off so that our children and families can truly thrive. I will always work to hold the bad actors in the system accountable and advocate for Alabama's hardworking families and their children."

Senator Tuberville was joined by Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Chair Bill Cassidy (R-LA) in introducing this draft legislation. Read the full discussion draft here.

Senator Tommy Tuberville represents Alabama in the United States Senate and is a member of the Senate Armed Services, Agriculture, Veterans' Affairs, HELP, and Aging Committees.
