VILLANOVA, Pa. (September 12, 2025) - The Rev. Kevin DePrinzio, OSA, PhD, Villanova University's vice president for Mission and Ministry, has been elected to the General Council of the Order of St. Augustine, for which he will immediately begin a six-year term in Rome. Father DePrinzio will serve as assistant general for English-speaking provinces, a role appointed to him by the newly-named Prior General of the Order, the Rev. Joseph L. Farrell, OSA, STL, STD, '85 VSB, '19 MS.
The General Council is a group of elected officials within the Order who assist the Prior General on affairs related spirituality, governance and mission.
"While it is bittersweet for our campus community, we are beyond excited for Father Kevin, the Augustinians and the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova as he transitions into this important new role within the Order," said University President the Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD.
Named vice president for Mission and Ministry in 2020, Father DePrinzio's leadership has been integral in Villanova's commitment to living out its Augustinian Catholic mission in all aspects of University life. Father DePrinzio brought more than 20 years of experience as an educator, campus minister, vocational director and administrator to the position, where he oversaw numerous pastoral and scholarly programs on campus. Those included initiatives related to Augustinian heritage and identity, research on contemporary issues through the lens of Catholic Social Teaching, faith-based opportunities and spiritual/sacramental needs for students, faculty and staff of various religious beliefs and traditions.
He was also heavily involved with pedagogy, serving as an assistant professor in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies as well as a panelist and facilitator for programs within Villanova's The Augustinian Institute.
Prior to joining Villanova University, Father DePrinzio served the Province of St. Thomas of Villanova as vocation director for the Augustinian friars. He was also both campus minister and an adjunct professor at Merrimack College as well as teacher and school minister at Monsignor Bonner High School in Drexel Hill, Pa.
Father DePrinzio graduated from St. Joseph's University with a Bachelor of Arts in English before attending Washington Theological Union, where he obtained both Master of Divinity and Master of Arts degrees. He then completed his Master of Philosophy at Catholic University of America and obtained a doctoral degree in Theology from the same institution.
