Bruce County and Partners Sign Capacity Funding Agreements

On May 21st, 2026, Bruce County and Bruce Power executed a four-year, $2 million Capacity Funding Agreement. This will support regional infrastructure planning and community readiness assessments for the proposed Bruce C project. This agreement positions the County and its municipal partners to better understand and plan for the project's potential impacts. It will also ensure communities are prepared for future associated growth.

The Capacity Funding Agreement will support Bruce County in assessing key areas such as transportation, housing, land use planning, and social infrastructure. This work will identify anticipated capital and service impacts. It will also inform infrastructure and service requirements for the proposed Bruce C project.

The Agreement follows the Province of Ontario's May 7th, 2026, announcement to help progress Canada's first large-scale nuclear build in 30 years. Their commitment will fund pre-development activities, including a commitment to community readiness assessments.

"The opportunity and responsibility that comes with the scale of the proposed Bruce C project requires partnership and support," said Bruce County Warden Luke Charbonneau. "Ontario's recent commitment to advancing reliable, affordable energy production along with Bruce Power's support will ensure we're meeting the needs of our residents. We have a lot of critical work to do. This funding, as well as our partnerships, will help us get efforts underway to strengthen our communities as our region helps to power Ontario's future."

Over the next four years, Bruce County will proceed with pre-development activities in collaboration with Bruce Power and local municipal partners. Through this coordinated approach, the County and its partners will collectively plan for growth. The importance of coordinated planning and investment across the region will help ensure we are able to maximize associated economic and social benefits together.

"The Bruce C Project represents a significant opportunity for the Clean Energy Frontier region. In order to maximize these major benefits, it is essential that local communities have the capacity to advance community and infrastructure readiness assessments," said Eric Chassard, President & CEO of Bruce Power. "We know that supportive infrastructure is more than roads and warehouses, it includes housing, workforce services, community planning, and healthy communities with the local capacity to make informed and timely decisions. This agreement ensures that Bruce County has the tools and resources needed to prepare in a thoughtful and responsible way."

On May 14th, 2026, the Municipality of Kincardine announced a 4-year, $2.2 million agreement with Bruce Power for Infrastructure and Community Readiness. There is expectation that a similar announcement from the Town of Saugeen Shores will follow their May 25, 2026, Council meeting.

The Bruce C project is currently in the Impact Statement phase of the integrated federal Impact Assessment process. Local community information sessions are currently underway throughout May and June. Date and location information is available on Bruce Power's upcoming events webpage.
