On March 5, 2026, at approximately 5:55 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a call for service regarding a traffic crash involving a motorcycle and a pickup truck at Highway 24 and 21st Street. Officers responded and determined that the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Highway 24 at a high rate of speed when the pickup made a right turn on red from 21st Street onto eastbound Highway 24. The motorcycle subsequently rear-ended the pickup, causing both the motorcycle operator and passenger to be ejected.
Both motorcycle occupants received immediate on-scene medical intervention, and both were transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.
Due to the circumstances of the crash, the CSPD Major Crash Team responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Currently, impairment is not suspected; however, speed is being investigated as a contributing factor. Eastbound Highway 24 was closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene. As of this release, no charges have been filed, and the investigation is ongoing.
On March 12, 2026, the El Paso County Coroner's Office notified CSPD that the motorcycle passenger had died at a local hospital as a result of her injuries. She has been identified as 30-year-old Ashley Moore.
This crash marks the 8th traffic fatality in Colorado Springs in 2026. At this time last year, the city experienced one traffic fatality. Over the past 365 days, there have been 58 traffic-related fatalities in Colorado Springs.
