2024 Herring Fishery Ends with Success

The 2024 bait herring fishery was a success, with three fishers making twelve deliveries to the Norton Sound Seafood plantin Unalakleet. Fishing began Friday, May 30th and concluded Friday, June 7th. NSEDC had a target of 75 tons for the season, with a dock price of $600/ton. Fishers delivered 138,379 pounds of herring, or 69.19 tons, earning over$41,000for their efforts. Norton Sound fishers willutilizetheherring as baitfor the commercialNorton Soundcrab and halibut fisheries occurring later this summer season.
