Motorless Morning returns to Garden of the Gods Park on Saturday, April 26, eliminating motor vehicle access from 5 a.m. to noon and allowing visitors to experience the park on foot, bike, skateboard or longboard in a quieter, more peaceful setting.
A second Motorless Morning event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 4 from 5 a.m. to noon.
"Motorless Morning gives visitors a rare opportunity to experience Garden of the Gods in a more peaceful and personal way," said Anna Cordova, Garden of the Gods Park Manager. "Without vehicle traffic, people can slow down, take in the scenery and enjoy the park in a way that feels very different from a typical day."
Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services will also host Early Bird Hike & Bike mornings from 5 to 8 a.m. on select Wednesdays, giving visitors additional opportunities to explore the park without motor vehicle traffic. Event dates include:
During all events, park rules and regulations apply, including cycling speed limits and one-way traffic. Skateboards and longboards are permitted during Motorless Morning but are not allowed during Early Bird Hike & Bike events. To keep the events safe and enjoyable, visitors should follow all posted signage and standard rules of the road. Slower users should keep to the right, follow directional signage and observe the 20 mph speed limit.
Visitors can park at the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center (1805 30th Street), Garden of the Gods Trading Post (324 Beckers Lane, Manitou Springs) or Parking Lot 1 at Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site (corner of 30th Street and Gateway Road).
An accessible vehicle into the main parking lot will be available upon request during Motorless Morning. All park visitors will have access to accessible routes throughout the park, and the City permits the use of other power-driven mobility devices (OPDMD), per its policy.
Motorless Morning was first introduced in 2018, and Early Bird Hike & Bikes began in 2020.
