National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Spring cleaning? Don't forget your medicine cabinet too! Do you have medications leftover from surgery or wisdom teeth removal, prescriptions you don't use anymore, or "as-needed" pills that are expired?

Our police officers are having a drug take-back event:

10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.
5710 West 7800 South

This is a free, no-questions-asked event. Just bring whatever leftover medication you have from surgeries, wisdom teeth removal or illnesses.

Why is it a bad idea to save prescription medications for later? You paid for them, and they can be expensive!

Why You Shouldn't Hang On to Old Medications:

• Accidental Poisoning: Kids or pets can easily get into medicine cabinets - and it happens more often than you'd think.
• Misuse or Theft: Leftover meds can be taken by others and used recreationally or even sold.
• Sharing Isn't Caring: Even if you're trying to help, sharing prescriptions is dangerous. Everyone's body is different, and self-medicating can lead to serious health risks.
• Don't Trash or Flush: Throwing meds in the trash or toilet can pollute groundwater and harm wildlife and our water systems.

The West Jordan Police Department always has a medicine drop box available in the Thomas M. Rees Justice Center at 8040 S. Redwood Rd. You can find other drug disposal locations by going to Google Maps and search for Drug Disposal Locations.
