As official weather intelligence partner of the Extreme Weather + Work initiative, The Weather Company will provide dedicated meteorology briefings, custom risk data and ongoing operational counsel to over 11,000 employers
ATLANTA & LOS ANGELES - October 8, 2026 - The Weather Company, the world's leading weather provider, and the Health Action Alliance (HAA), the nation's largest employer network at the intersection of business and public health, today announced a strategic partnership to equip business leaders with advanced weather intelligence. The Weather Company will serve as the official weather intelligence partner for HAA's Extreme Weather + Work initiative, providing member organizations with actionable predictive insights to help their workforces, supply chains and operations navigate increasingly volatile weather- and climate-related events.
"Over 82% of workers have been directly impacted by extreme weather, yet very few organizations have comprehensively mapped their workforce's exposure,1" said David Leathers, director of Extreme Weather + Work at the Health Action Alliance. "Partnering with The Weather Company gives our Extreme Weather + Work members, and our broader Health Action Alliance network of over 11,000 employers, direct access to world-class meteorology and data insights so leaders can move from reactive response to proactive resilience."
This partnership comes at a time when companies face immediate operational challenges posed by this year's strong El Niño pattern. According to The Weather Company's winter outlook, the strong El Niño pattern is set to significantly alter standard seasonal weather across North America, shifting regional risks, extending warm weather well past typical calendar dates, and disrupting historical operational playbooks. As weather patterns shift, The Weather Company and HAA are establishing a direct channel to help corporate leaders translate complex weather data into proactive workforce protection strategies.
El Niño's Impact on Workforce and Enterprise Operations
"Most businesses plan for a standard winter, but that's not always the best plan. For example, El Niño disrupts those typical patterns, bringing a much wider variety of impacts than we typically see," said Ben Papandrea, meteorologist and senior manager of global forecast operations at The Weather Company. "Working with the Health Action Alliance, we aim to continue to provide decision makers with the weather expertise and data they need to help keep their employees safe and business running smoothly."
"We're pleased to welcome The Weather Company to Extreme Weather + Work," said Susan Potter, president, Marsh People and Investments, US & Canada. "Marsh has been part of this initiative since day one because we understand the impact of extreme weather on clients - not just on their operations, but their people. Bringing weather insights into this effort will help employers better anticipate risk and plan ahead rather than simply react." Extreme Weather + Work is presented by Marsh with support from The Hartford.
The latest seasonal outlooks from The Weather Company highlight several key shifts employers should factor into their fall and winter planning:
Extended warmth and delayed winter urgency: Fall warmth is projected to persist coast-to-coast, extending outdoor and recreational activity while delaying typical winter storm urgency into early 2027. Industries dependent on early winter demand or seasonal staffing shifts must adjust Q4 expectations.
Regional risks: Abnormally warm, dry weather in the Pacific Northwest during fall into winter may worsen drought conditions and leave the area vulnerable to wildfire activity next spring/summer. California will turn dramatically wetter later this fall, with a deluge of storm systems contributing to worsening flood and landslide risks through winter. Flooding and severe weather will be the primary threat in the Southeast.
Supply chain and demand disruption: Shifted weather patterns will alter consumer demand by region, month, and product line - requiring enterprise leaders in retail, power, and manufacturing to dynamically reallocate inventory and resources.
As the official weather intelligence partner, The Weather Company will collaborate with Extreme Weather + Work founding members - including companies such as Google, Disney, CVS Health, and Bristol Myers Squibb - delivering predictive data, executive touchpoints, and joint research. Member companies will have access to expert meteorologist briefings, workforce resilience workshops, regular meetings and readiness updates to equip business leaders with actionable predictive insights to integrate weather intelligence into their business continuity strategies.
