Connecting Natomas to Downtown: City hosting open house for Truxel Bridge Project on Nov. 13

The City of Sacramento is hosting a community open house that will include project information stations highlighting outcomes from the Truxel Road Bridge Feasibility Study on Nov. 13 at the SMUD Museum of Science and Curiosity (400 Jibboom St.).

The Truxel Bridge, a new multi-modal crossing of the lower American River connecting Truxel Road and Sequoia Pacific Boulevard, will provide a safe and convenient local link between north and south Natomas and downtown Sacramento. The Feasibility Study is the first phase for the planned bridge and includes aspects of preliminary engineering, environmental analysis, and community engagement.

Community members are invited to visit the open house any time between 5:30-7 p.m. Parking is free for all attendees of the open house. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP online here.

"We've received significant community input over the last year to better understand the community's travel patterns, needs, and concerns to improve traveler experience on the planned bridge," says Fedolia "Sparky" Harris, principal planner with the Department of Public Works. "Our ultimate goal is to ensure that the Truxel Bridge will serve as a vital connection for those walking, biking, riding public transit, or driving over the lower American River."

This phase of the project is funded by a Caltrans Sustainable Transportation Planning grant obtained in partnership with the Sacramento Area Council of Governments and supplemented by local funds from the Sacramento Regional Transit District.

In 2013, the City Council adopted the American River Crossings Alternatives Study which identified a crossing at Truxel Road as the preferred alignment for a new bridge. The Truxel Bridge alignment was chosen to address limited connectivity across the lower American River, which creates a barrier to economic activity, land use development, economic growth, and job access.
