US 40 Crack Seal Project set to begin on October 7

News Release

September 30, 2024 - Northwestern Colorado - Work will occur from Dinosaur to Massadona

Moffat County - The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin crack seal treatment work on Oct. 7. The work will occur along US Highway 40, in northwest Colorado from Dinosaur to Massadona, Mile Points 7 to 21. Work will be done in the westbound and eastbound lanes for a 14-mile stretch of US 40.

The project will improve and prolong the life of the road surface. Timely crack sealing is one of the most effective ways to maintain the quality and integrity of road pavement and is a very cost-effective preventive maintenance procedure. A-1 Chipseal is the contractor for this project, which is expected to last until the end of October.

Traffic Impacts

Daytime work hours range from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Traffic impacts include:

  • Vehicles will be reduced to a single-lane, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction throughout the duration of the project
  • Lane closures, guided by flaggers and pilot cars, will have up to 15-minute delays
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph through the work zone
