NEWS: Sens. Ossoff, Rev. Warnock Upgrading Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport Through Bipartisan Infrastructure Law

Savannah, Ga. - U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock are delivering new resources to upgrade Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport through the bipartisan infrastructure law.

Today, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock announced they are delivering $10 million in Federal funding through the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Airport Terminal Program (ATP), authorized by the bipartisan infrastructure law, to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.

The Federal funding will support the renovation of the baggage claim, ticket lobby, and Savannah Square at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport to enhance accessibility, comfort, and reliability for Georgia families and other travelers.

"Georgia's airports are a key driver of job creation and economic competitiveness. That's why Senator Reverend Warnock and I are pleased to deliver this funding through the bipartisan infrastructure law for Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport. Our bipartisan infrastructure law will continue to deliver long-overdue upgrades to Georgia's infrastructure for years to come," Sen. Ossoff said.

"As a native Savannahian, I understand that when we invest in the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, we invest in all Coastal Georgia. I'm glad to see the enormous work Senator Ossoff and I put into passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law continues to bear fruit through critical federal investments like this one," said Senator Warnock.

"As a frequent user, satisfied customer, and part of the 4.2 million passengers total the Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport serves each year, I welcome these additional funds to upgrade the state's second-busiest airport. At a time when airlines are shutting down and air travel is compromised, such bipartisan leadership keeps the needs of the people, not politics, top of mind. We are grateful Savannah continues to benefit from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law," said City of Savannah Mayor Van R. Johnson, II.

"The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law represents a critical investment in the future of our community and the continued growth of our local airport. Chatham is grateful for the visionary leadership to support for this legislation that will help strengthen airport operations, improve safety and efficiency, modernize facilities, and create opportunities for economic development throughout the region," said Chatham County Chairman Chester Ellis. "Local, state and federal leaders recognize the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport is more than a transportation hub - it is an engine for job creation, tourism, emergency response capabilities, and long-term regional growth."

Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock continue delivering resources to upgrade Georgia's airports and strengthen economic growth.

In September 2024, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock delivered over $60 million in Federal investments for Georgia's airports through the bipartisan infrastructure law, including over $11 million for taxiway construction at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.

In May 2024, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock delivered over $120 million in Federal grant funding through the bipartisan infrastructure law for airport infrastructure upgrades, including nearly $6 million for Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.

In 2023, Sen. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock delivered $6.5 million through the bipartisan infrastructure law to support security screening checkpoint expansion projects already underway at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport -adding 23,000 square feet to the south side of the terminal building, and an additional two screening lanes to create a smoother traveling experience for millions of flyers.

In June 2021, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock delivered a new $6 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) to expand the tarmac at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport.
