Route Z in Cape Girardeau County Closed for Hubble Creek Bridge Replacements

SIKESTON-Route Z in Cape Girardeau County will be closed as contractor crews for the Missouri Department of Transportation replace the bridges over Hubble Creek and Hubble Creek Overflow. Both aging, one lane structures will be replaced with wider structures to accommodate two lanes of traffic.

This section of roadway is located from West Clark Street to County Road 222 near Gordonville, Missouri. County Road 222 will remain open, except for some minor, short-term closures when constructing the new county road connection into Route Z. Notification will be provided prior to any impact to County Road 222.

A signed detour will be available on Route 25, Route A and Route F to Route Z.

Work will begin Monday, Aug. 24 with completion anticipated Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2027, weather permitting. The work zone will be in place 24 hours a day until the project is complete.

The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area.
