MLGW Offers Free Pilot Light Safety Inspections in September

A $68 charge goes into effect after October 1

Memphis Light, Gas and Water Division offers free pilot light safety inspections for residential customers September 2-30. Customers can schedule appointments now.

Pilot light safety inspections are always free for customers who are 60 or older and customers with disabilities.

Appointments are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays during the following time periods:

· 8 a.m. - noon

· Noon - 4 p.m.

· 4 - 8 p.m. (Tuesday through Thursday only)

Customers can call 901-544-6549 to schedule an appointment. MLGW's Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system can also be used to schedule an appointment using the customer's 16-digit account number or telephone number.

Starting October 1, customers will be charged $68 for inspections of up to three gas heating appliances. Each additional appliance will cost $19. Customers whose pilot lights are already lit but who request a safety inspection will also be charged $68. Charges will appear on the customer's next utility bill.

Pilot light safety inspections conclude December 31.
