As global fertilizer markets face continued volatility, U.S.-based Pivot Bio is scaling production of its nitrogen fertilizer to improve performance, lower costs, bring multi-year price predictability and greater supply certainty for farmers
Company builds on its commercial leadership as governments and industries around the world prioritize agricultural technology
MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 13, 2026 - As harvest continues across the United States, farmers are also planning for the 2027 growing season against a backdrop of continued unpredictability in global fertilizer markets, keeping nitrogen costs and supply among their top considerations. Years of investment in domestic crop nutrition technology are now giving farmers new opportunities for greater certainty, flexibility and control over one of their largest input costs.
As the agriculture industry recognizes Global Fertilizer Day on Oct. 13, Pivot Bio, one of the world's leading agtech companies, is highlighting how its continued investment in innovation, expanded commercial infrastructure and differentiated nitrogen technology are delivering meaningful economic and operational benefits for farmers as they navigate changing fertilizer markets and plan for the year ahead.
Global fertilizer markets continue to experience price fluctuations driven by several factors, including the ongoing conflict in Iran, energy markets, supply chain disruptions and global market conditions. Pivot Bio has focused on investing in innovative nitrogen solutions, expanding its U.S. manufacturing and operations to help strengthen domestic agricultural supply resilience and better serve American farmers.
"Farmers have spent years managing fertilizer prices and supply disruptions driven by events happening thousands of miles from their fields," said Chris Abbott, chief executive officer of Pivot Bio. "For more than 100 years, conventional fertilizer has helped feed the world. To be able to feed a growing population for the next 100 years, we need to continue to advance innovation and technology in agriculture. Since 2011, we've invested in building a fundamentally different model for nitrogen fertilizer, one rooted in American innovation and a more predictable cost structure. When global markets were disrupted this spring, we were able to support farmers by increasing production, lowering prices and expanding our supply. That's what innovation should deliver, better choices, greater certainty and performance and stronger economics for farmers."
The company demonstrated that commitment during the 2026 growing season. As conflict in the Middle East disrupted global fertilizer markets and increased pressure on farmers, Pivot Bio moved quickly to lower product prices, increase production at its St. Louis, Missouri, manufacturing facility and expand distribution to meet growing demand. The company provided farmers with an additional, cost-effective, high-performing source of nitrogen during a critical planting period, which can deliver products to growers in as little as 24 hours. These actions reflected years of investment in technology, manufacturing and commercial infrastructure designed to respond quickly to farmers' needs.
Pivot Bio's continued investment extends beyond responding to market volatility. Since its founding more than 15 years ago, the company has grown from a scientific startup into a leading agricultural technology company, with products used across nearly 20 million acres in North America. Over the past year, Pivot Bio has introduced four new product lines, expanded its retail and distribution network, lowered product prices and advanced new crop nutrition technologies for the 2027 growing season. The company has also strengthened its commitment to farm families and rural communities through Pivot Pathways: A Generation Grant, a planned multimillion-dollar investment in the next generation of American agriculture. Together, these efforts reflect a long-term commitment to delivering innovation that improves farm economics while creating new opportunities for growth.
Pivot Bio's investments come as biotechnology in agriculture is increasingly recognized around the world as a strategic driver of economic growth, national competitiveness and supply chain resilience. The United States, European Union, Brazil and other agricultural economies are advancing investments, policies and research to accelerate biological innovation, including technologies that can transform how crops are grown and nourished. For agriculture, this growing global focus represents an important opportunity to reduce dependence on conventional inputs, strengthen food security and bring the next generation of science-driven solutions to farmers.
Pivot Bio's manufacturing facilities are located in the United States, reducing exposure to the global production, shipping and energy disruptions that can affect traditional fertilizer markets. Its products for corn, cotton, wheat, sorghum and other small grains are designed to work alongside farmers' existing fertility programs, giving growers a reliable source of nitrogen as they balance agronomic performance, input costs and risk.
Performance data from Pivot Bio's PROVEN® G3 corn product demonstrates the value of that approach. Across 134 real farm trials with 129 growers, PROVEN G3 replaced an average of 33 pounds of synthetic nitrogen per acre while delivering an average yield increase of 2.1 bushels per acre when following the company's best management practices. The company is also expanding access to microbial nitrogen fertilizer for other crops, significantly increasing production and availability of its Pivot Bio RETURN® product for winter wheat this fall in response to strong farmer demand.
In addition to product performance, Pivot Bio is providing farmers with greater certainty around future nitrogen costs and availability. The company's Multi-Year Price Ceiling program allows customers to lock in a consistent price and product availability through the next three growing seasons. It remains one of the only multiyear program of its kind in agriculture, giving farmers an opportunity to reduce their exposure to fertilizer market swings while maintaining flexibility in how they manage nitrogen on their farms.
By combining product innovation with a growing commercial network and long-term pricing solutions, Pivot Bio is helping farmers reduce exposure to global fertilizer volatility while building a more predictable and resilient nitrogen fertilizer supply. These investments underscore the company's continued focus on advancing fertilizer technology, expanding market access and delivering greater value to farmers.
"The events of this year have reinforced something we've believed since our founding: agriculture needs more innovation, more investment and more choices for farmers," Abbott said. "We've demonstrated that we can increase supply when farmers need it, lower costs when markets are rising and deliver technology that performs in the field. And we're just getting started. We believe the next generation of fertilizer innovation will fundamentally change the economics of farming, and we're committed to leading that transformation."
