AGM preview - building air service

Saint John Airport's Annual General Meeting on May 5 will offer a look back at the past year - and, just as importantly, a look ahead at what's next for air service in our region.

A key part of that conversation will come from special guest speaker Marcus Lam, Senior Vice-President with InterVISTAS, who has been working with YSJ on its air service development strategy.

Marcus brings nearly 20 years of aviation experience, including work with airports, airlines and governments around the world. His expertise spans airline network planning, passenger demand forecasting and route development - the behind-the-scenes work that shapes where planes fly and how often.

Before joining InterVISTAS, he worked as a network planner at Air Canada, giving him direct insight into how airlines make decisions in a highly competitive environment where aircraft, crews and routes are all carefully allocated.

That perspective is central to the work he has done for YSJ.

His study focuses on identifying real opportunities for growth - analyzing travel patterns, passenger demand and market potential to help position Saint John for new and expanded air service. It's about understanding not just where people want to go, but how to make a compelling case to airlines to serve this market.

What emerges is a clear message - growth is possible, but it must be earned.

Saint John's strong business base, growing passenger numbers and strategic location all work in its favour. Strengthening connections to key hubs and building consistent demand will be critical to unlocking that potential.

Just as important is the role of the community. Air service growth depends not only on data and strategy, but on travellers and businesses choosing to fly from their home airport.

At the AGM, Marcus will share insights from the study and outline what it will take to move forward.
