President Meloni’s telephone conversation with the Amir of Kuwait

The President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, had a telephone conversation today with the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

President Meloni reaffirmed Italy's solidarity with Kuwait following Iran's unjustified attacks and received the Amir's sincere thanks for the defence systems provided by Italy.

The two leaders then discussed the situation in the region, with particular reference to the prospects for a solution to the Gulf crisis, agreeing on the need to uphold freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, in line with international law.

Lastly, the conversation provided the opportunity for an in-depth discussion on the main areas of bilateral cooperation, confirming the shared commitment to further strengthening the economic partnership between Rome and Kuwait City, starting with the promotion of mutual investments in sectors of common interest.
