Memorial Healthcare System's Mobile Health Program continues to expand access to care across South Broward, serving more than 2,000 patients through more than 2,800 visits in the first nine months of 2026. The program builds on a successful 2025, when it delivered more than 3,500 patient visits, contributed to a 62% reduction in hospital admissions among participating patients and generated an estimated $4.3 million in health system cost savings.
Throughout 2025, Memorial's adult mobile health and pediatric mobile health units provided 1,623 adult visits and 1,961 pediatric visits while operating 224 adult service days and 248 pediatric service days across South Broward. Care was delivered at schools, community events, municipal programs and partner organizations, bringing healthcare directly to neighborhoods where access can be limited. In 2025, the mobile units served seven municipalities, three schools and 20 community sites, and participated in 15 community events.
"Mobile health is one of the ways Memorial is fulfilling its commitment to improve access to care for our community," said Dionne Blackwood, vice president of Memorial Primary Care & Ambulatory Services. "By bringing healthcare directly into neighborhoods, we can reach patients earlier, connect them with primary care and community resources, and help prevent health issues from becoming medical emergencies."
The Mobile Health Program provides preventive care, chronic disease management, medication refills, sick visits, pediatric care, school physicals and immunizations. Beyond treating immediate health concerns, the program helps connect patients with primary care providers, financial assistance programs, case management services and community resources that address social factors affecting health.
For patients, the program's impact extends beyond the numbers. After an emergency department referral, Dangnis, a patient in need of follow-up care, was connected to Memorial's adult mobile health unit by a Memorial health care navigator. Over several months, the mobile health provider helped manage her chronic health conditions while the navigator assisted her with the financial assistance application process. After qualifying for Memorial's Primary Care Financial Assistance Program, Dangnis established ongoing care at a Memorial Primary Care office.
"Healthcare begins with trust," said Adara Adams, director of Community Services for Memorial Primary Care & Ambulatory Services. "When we consistently show up in neighborhoods, schools, churches and community organizations, we build relationships that help people feel comfortable seeking care. Our goal is not only to treat today's health concerns but to connect people with the ongoing support they need to live healthier lives."
Memorial launched its first pediatric mobile health unit in 2000 to improve access to school-based care and immunizations. Since then, the program has grown into a fleet serving children and adults throughout South Broward. The mobile units have also supported community response efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, following the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School tragedy, and during Hurricane Dorian response efforts, demonstrating the program's ability to quickly respond to emerging community needs.
Building on its 2025 impact, Memorial continues to expand the Mobile Health Program in 2026 through new community partnerships, enhanced family medicine services and continued integration with primary care. This year, Memorial replaced an aging pediatric mobile health unit and added five sites to its regular service locations, including churches and schools. As Memorial and Broward Health move forward through the Better Together partnership, the Mobile Health Program will help expand access to care, strengthen connections across the communities both health systems serve and connect more residents with the services they need.
