TENNILLE, Ga. - The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) and its construction contractors have scheduled multiple new closures and traffic pattern changes in east-central Georgia to be implemented in the coming days.

In Greene County, State Route 15 will close to through traffic at English School Road, about one mile southeast of Siloam, on Wednesday, September 3. Georgia DOT has observed a shoulder washout at this location because of insufficient water flow. Georgia DOT maintenance forces will remove the existing pipe under the road at this location and install a new pipe. Weather permitting, work is expected to be completed by Saturday, September 6.

Detour (from Siloam): SR 77 north to I-20, I-20 east to Exit 148/SR 22, SR 22 south to SR 15

In Wilkinson County, traffic on US Route 441 will be reduced to one lane in each direction near State Route 112 as part of a project to build a roundabout at the intersection. On Thursday, September 4, the contractor will close the right-hand lane on the northbound and southbound sides of US 441 at the intersection. Additionally, the speed limit on US 441 will be reduced from 65 mph to 55 mph approaching the work zone, and 55 mph to 45 mph after crossing project limits. These changes will remain in effect for several months as the contractor builds the roundabout. Drivers are advised to obey the new speed limits and give workers space to do their jobs.

In Laurens County, Scotland Road will close between US Route 441 and Doyle Taylor Road on Monday, September 8. As part of a project to widen US 441 south of Interstate 16, contractors are changing the alignment of Scotland Rd. After the new alignment is complete, Scotland Rd. will meet US 441 at the existing intersection of US 441 and Springhaven Rd. The upcoming closure of Scotland Rd. allows the contractor to finish realigning the route. Weather permitting, this work is expected to take about two weeks. Once finished, traffic will be directed to the new configuration of Scotland Rd. While the closure is implemented, US 441 can be accessed from Scotland Rd. using Doyle Taylor Rd.

Drivers are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce their speed, stay alert, and watch for workers while navigating work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
