14 January 2026 - State Secretary Sergiu Mihov took part today in the meeting of the Council of National Coordinators of the GUAM member states. The discussions focused on political and security developments in the region, as well as on matters related to the organization's ongoing activities.
In his intervention, State Secretary Mihov reaffirmed the Republic of Moldova's strong support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, in the context of Russia's war of aggression. He also highlighted the challenges facing Moldova due to this conflict and reiterated the need for the withdrawal of Russian troops and ammunition illegally stationed in the Transnistrian region of Moldova.
Mihov emphasized that modern threats increasingly take hybrid forms. Energy coercion, disinformation, cyberattacks, and economic pressure are systematically used to undermine democratic societies and constrain sovereign decision-making. In this context, he stressed the important role GUAM can play in facilitating cooperation to strengthen institutional resilience, protect critical infrastructure, and combat disinformation.
The meeting also addressed action areas that could contribute to economic connectivity and sustainable development, including the development of secure transport corridors, digital connectivity, and transparent trade frameworks. These are not only economic priorities but also essential security factors.
During the discussions, the results of Azerbaijan's outgoing GUAM Chairmanship, achieved during 2024-2025, were presented, and decisions to be submitted for approval by the Council of Foreign Ministers were discussed.
