Arlington, VA - July 17, 2025 - The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) and Infection Prevention and Control Canada (IPAC Canada) are proud to announce that their jointly developed Ethical Infection Prevention and Control Decision-Making Framework has received formal endorsement from two leading international organizations: the Australasian College for Infection Prevention and Control (ACIPC) and the Infection Prevention Society (IPS) in the United Kingdom.
This milestone reflects a growing global consensus on the importance of ethical guidance in infection prevention and control (IPC) practices. The framework, released in March 2024, provides a structured approach to navigating complex ethical decisions in IPC, ensuring that professionals can uphold integrity, transparency, and equity in their work.
APIC and IPAC Canada released a joint statement:
"We are honoured to have the support of ACIPC and IPS." "Their endorsement underscores the framework's relevance and utility across diverse healthcare systems and cultural contexts."
The framework is designed to support IPC professionals in making ethically sound decisions, particularly in high-stakes or resource-constrained environments. It addresses key principles such as autonomy, justice, beneficence, and non-maleficence, and offers practical tools for applying these principles in real-world scenarios.
The full framework is available on APIC site here and IPAC Canada Publications - IPAC-Canada
