Commissioner Nick Myers Selected as Chairman of the Arizona Corporation Commission

Jan 14, 2026, 11:09 by Nicole Garcia

Phoenix, Ariz.- At the Arizona Corporation Commission's January 14, 2026, open meeting, Commissioner Nick Myers was selected as the Commission's next chairman.

"First, I want to thank my colleagues, for the confidence you've placed in me by electing me to serve as Chair," stated Chair Myers. "I'm extremely proud of the work this Commission has already done together. Over the past several years, this body has made meaningful improvements in how we deliberate, how we engage the public, and how we approach our responsibility to provide fair, consistent and transparent utility regulation. Those improvements did not happen by accident. They are the result of serious effort by commissioners, dedicated staff, and legal counsel who care deeply about getting this work right."

"As Chair, my primary goal is continuity. Continuing what is working well, while making thoughtful, incremental improvements where they are needed. I believe strongly that stability and professionalism are strengths of this institution, especially at a time when utility issues are becoming more complex and more consequential," added Chair Myers.

As part of his acceptance, Chair Myers identified five key commitments and priorities:

  1. "First, I want to emphasize my commitment to open, orderly, and transparent meetings. Clear structure, disciplined agendas, and predictable public comment processes help everyone, from commissioners and staff to stakeholders and members of the public, understand how decisions are made and why. Transparency is not just about access; it's about clarity."
  2. "Second, we must continue to improve how we communicate with constituents. When rates change, when new policies are adopted, or when federal actions affect state decisions, people deserve to know not only what is happening, but why. Helping the public connect Commission decisions to real-world impacts like their monthly bills helps to build trust and credibility."
  3. "Third, I want to continue to strengthen our culture of empowering staff and legal counsel. We may not always agree. Many times we don't, but that's healthy and this Commission is at its best when staff feels comfortable challenging assumptions, raising concerns, and explaining complex issues openly. Clear explanations in public meetings protect the integrity of our decisions and strengthen public understanding."
  4. "Fourth, we will keep pushing forward on efficiency and modernization-from internal processes to how we handle increasingly complex dockets. That includes using better tools, clearer workflows, and committee structures that allow commissioners to do deeper work while respecting the authority of the full Commission."
  5. "Finally, I believe it is critical that we continue-if not expand-our engagement at the federal level. Federal policy increasingly shapes the utility landscape, and Arizona must remain an active, credible voice in those conversations. Collaboration, not isolation, best serves our ratepayers and our economy."

"I want to thank my fellow commissioners for your professionalism and your willingness to work through difficult issues. I also want to thank our staff and counsel for their expertise, patience, and dedication to public service," concluded Chair Myers. "I look forward to working with all of you to build on the progress we've made under the leadership of Chair Thompson and prior chairs and to guide this Commission with fairness, transparency, and respect for the people we serve. Thank you again for the trust you've placed in me. I'm honored to serve."
