Washington, D.C. (January 18, 2025) -- Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) Chief Executive Officer Carissa Moffat Miller released the following statement on the nomination of Penny Schwinn as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education.
"I applaud the nomination of Penny Schwinn as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education. Penny is a proven leader who works hard every day to improve outcomes for students. I have enjoyed working with Penny in her roles as state education commissioner and CCSSO board member and look forward to continuing to work with her in this new role as Deputy Secretary."

The Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) is a nonpartisan, nationwide, nonprofit organization of public officials who head departments of elementary and secondary education in the states, the District of Columbia, the Department of Defense Education Activity, Bureau of Indian Education, and five U.S. extra-state jurisdictions.
