Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Shahin met at the Ministry's headquarters with Dora Bakoyannis, Special Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe on the Situation in the Middle East, in the presence of Ambassador Omar Awadallah, Assistant Minister for Political Affairs, to discuss the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Minister Shahin briefed the rapporteur on the ongoing Israeli violations against the Palestinian people, stressing that Israeli policies undermine the two-state solution and constitute a major obstacle to any genuine peace process. She emphasized that any proposals presented to the United Nations must be framed within a clear timeframe and mandate, rooted in international law and the New York Declaration, with the ultimate goal of ending the occupation and realizing the independent State of Palestine.
Ms. Bakoyannis reaffirmed the Parliamentary Assembly's commitment to the two-state solution and expressed appreciation for the Palestinian government's reform efforts, noting the Assembly's readiness to offer support. Minister Shahin emphasized that such reforms cannot succeed without a credible political process to end the occupation, underscoring that stability and development are inseparable from justice and freedom for the Palestinian people.
