GCFD Fire Prevention Week 2024: Oct. 6 to 12

Join the Greenville City Fire Department in celebrating Fire Prevention Week 2024, as we focus on installing, testing, and replacing residential smoke alarms.

A working smoke alarm can significantly reduce the risk of fire-related death or injury. More than one-third of single-family home fire deaths result from fires without a smoke alarm.

Smoke Alarm Key Facts
Keeping your home safe is easy, follow these three easy steps:

  • Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area (like a hallway), and on each level of the home, including the basement.
  • Test smoke alarms at least once a month by pushing the test button.
  • Replace your smoke alarms every ten years, or when they stop responding when testing - whichever comes first.

Does someone in your home have sensory or physical disabilities? Make sure the smoke alarms in your home meet their specific needs.

Need your smoke alarms replaced?
No problem. If you live within Greenville City limits, GCFD firefighters will come to your home, test your smoke alarms, and if needed, replace them for FREE. To receive free smoke alarms, fill out a request form.
