Denver's Department of Technology Services is proud to announce the launch of "Stay Cyber Safe: Your Shield Against Digital Threats," a new public awareness campaign kicking off this October in recognition of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. This month-long initiative is designed to empower residents with the knowledge and tools needed to protect themselves from an increasingly complex landscape of cyber threats.
The campaign will feature weekly educational themes to address the following key areas of digital security.
"Cybercriminals are constantly evolving, and their attacks now extend far beyond just email, targeting everything from AI platforms to social media and even telecommunications," said Merlin Namuth, Denver's Chief Information Security Officer. "This campaign is designed to help community members recognize these threats and make informed decisions to protect their personal information."
Throughout October, the City and County of Denver will share educational resources through its newsletter,The Denver Local, and social media channels (Facebook,X,Instagram, andLinkedIn). The campaign will offer practical advice, including how to spot suspicious emails and text messages, the importance of using strong, unique passwords, and how to be mindful of the information shared online.
Everyone has a role to play in defending against these targeted attacks, and the city's goal is to provide valuable resources and tips community members can use to stay one step ahead.
