The new art installation was organized through City of Eugene Cultural Services and Parks and Open Space Planning; it is funded by parks SDCs in collaboration with dedicated public art funding. It celebrates the opening of the City's newest dog park, the 1.3-acre fenced and gated area of Washington Jefferson Park nestled between West Fifth and Sixth avenues. The dog park was overwhelmingly supported by community members and had its grand opening in March 2024.
Located in the heart of a multicultural neighborhood and close to bike paths and bus routes, Washington Jefferson Park is a vibrant urban hub. A portion of the park, including the new dog park, skatepark, basketball court and horseshoe pits, is sheltered beneath the I-105 bridge, offering a dry and illuminated space for year-round recreation. The new mural brings nature, community and creativity together, and supports the City of Eugene strategic plan goals around a culture of belonging.
