UPDATE #5: Fourth Arrest Made in 2022 Homicide in Madison South Neighborhood

On Friday, January 16, 2026, members of PPB's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) located and arrested Dayla A. Causey, 34, and booked her on multiple warrants. One was related to this case, and she was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center for Murder in the Second Degree.

Third Arrest Made in 2022 Homicide in Madison South Neighborhood

A third suspect in the March 2022 fatal shooting of Mohamed Shaani has been arrested.

On Wednesday, November 19, 2025, detectives, assisted by the Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT), arrested Shaperryia L. Lambert, 41, in Northeast Portland. She was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on a charge of Murder in the Second Degree.

A second suspect in the March 2022 fatal shooting of Mohamed Shaani has been arrested.

On Wednesday, November 5, 2025, PPB homicide detectives with the assistance of The Washington County Tactical Negotiations Team (TNT), arrested Kaesha Green, 41, of Portland for her involvement in the murder of Mohamed Shaani. Green was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center and lodged on the following charge: Murder in the Second Degree.

Suspect Arrested in 2022 Homicide

A suspect in the March 2022 fatal shooting of Mohamed Shaani has been arrested.

On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, officers assigned to the Portland Police Bureau's East Precinct arrested Justin Ortega-Mejia, 28, of Portland. Ortega-Mejia was transported to the Multnomah County Detention Center and lodged on the following charge: Murder in the Second Degree.

Deceased Victim Identified in Madison South Homicide

The person found deceased after a shooting in the Madison South Neighborhood is identified as 39-year-old Mohamed Shaani. His family has been notified of his death.

Death Investigation Underway Following Shooting

On Sunday, March 27, 2022 at 9:38 p.m., officers from the East Precinct were dispatched to a report of a shooting near Northeast Milton Street and Northeast 82nd Avenue. When officers arrived they located an adult male who had been shot. Officers attempted life-saving measures until paramedics arrived but the victim did not survive.The Portland Police Homicide Unit responded to investigate. Anyone with information about this case, who has not talked with police, is asked to contact [email protected] and reference case number 22-82299.

During the investigation, Northeast Milton Street was closed between Northeast 82nd Avenue and Northeast 85th Avenue. The scene is now clear and the roads are back open. More information will be released when appropriate.
