Congresswoman April McClain Delaney Hosts Seniors Workshop with 350 Constituents, Congressman John Larson and Local Leaders to Address Key Issues Facing Seniors
Gaithersburg, MD - Congresswoman April McClain Delaney (MD-06) welcomed more than 350 constituents to a Seniors Workshop held in her district, bringing together national and local leaders to discuss the most pressing issues facing older Americans, including Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare and access to vital federal, state and local services.
Amid severe staff reductions at the Social Security Administration and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, proposed cuts to Medicaid (which seven million Seniors rely on) in the Republicans' budget reconciliation package and continued threats to Americans' data privacy, the Congresswoman has heard from thousands of Seniors and their loved ones concerned about the Administration's impacts to the services, programs and protections they rely on to get by.
During the panel, the Congresswoman and panelists fielded questions directly from concerned constituents. Before and after the panel, attendees visited resource tables staffed by community organizations and service providers, offering information on federal benefits, health programs and aging services.
The event featured a distinguished panel of experts and policymakers:
"I've heard from thousands of Seniors from my district who are concerned about the future of Social Security under this Administration-and rightfully so," said Congresswoman McClain Delaney. "After a lifetime of hard work and paying into these programs, our seniors deserve to retire with dignity, not uncertainty. But today, the essential programs they rely on are under threat. In Congress, I'm fighting to protect and strengthen these lifelines, because Marylanders earned them, and future generations are counting on us to get it right."
"It was an honor to join my good friend and colleague, Rep. April McClain Delaney, to meet with her constituents who are concerned about the future of Social Security. The Trump Administration and Elon Musk's 'DOGE' have laid off 7,000 workers from the Social Security Administration and are closing the field and hearing offices that deliver their hard-earned benefits in full and on time every month," said Congressman Larson. "Together, Rep. McClain Delaney and I are fighting to reverse these cuts and not only protect Social Security but enhance it by ensuring the wealthy finally pay their fair share."
