Baltimore, Maryland - A Maryland felon faces indictment after making his initial appearance in federal court, today, for firearm possession crimes.
Theodore Harcum, 50, of Denton, is charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person. Harcum is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition due to a prior felony conviction.
Kelly O. Hayes, U.S. Attorney for the District of Maryland, announced the indictment with Special Agent in Charge Charles Doerrer, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and Acting Chief Jamie L. Secrist, Denton Police Department.
According to the indictment, on April 13, 2026, Harcum possessed a handgun and nine rounds of ammunition.
An indictment is not a finding of guilt. Individuals charged by indictment are presumed innocent until proven guilty at a later criminal proceeding.
Harcum faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in federal prison for possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. Actual sentences for federal crimes are typically less than the maximum penalties. A federal district judge determines sentencing after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes commended the ATF and Denton Police Department for their work in the investigation. U.S. Attorney Hayes also thanked Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Arqum Rashid who is prosecuting the federal case.
