Rep. Crank Leads CO House Republican Delegation Letter to Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper on Senate Minority-Led Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Yesterday, as first reported by CBS Colorado, the Colorado Republican House of Representatives Delegation, including Reps. Lauren Boebert (CO-04), Gabe Evans (CO-08), and Jeff Hurd (CO-03), sent a letter to Colorado Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper, urging them to support the clean Continuing Resolution (CR).

"Obviously, we want them to do what they've done 13 times in the Biden Administration and many times throughout their career," Crank told CBS Colorado. "That is to simply continue with what is called a clean, continuing resolution. But it just basically says that we are going to continue funding government at its current level to give us more time to get some of these appropriations bills done."

Excerpts from the letter read:

"Throughout your years in public service, both of you have supported clean CRs as a responsible way to keep the government open while Congress continues negotiations on long-term, bipartisan funding bills-including 13 times under the Biden administration. Your recent votes depart from that precedent and risk undermining the stability and reliability of the institutions you have long defended.

"This shutdown is already having tangible effects across Colorado. Because of your continued opposition:

  • Many of the 55,000 federal employees in our state are facing financial hardship
  • "More than 600,000 Coloradans may struggle to eat next month" if SNAP is not funded
  • Food pantry visits by military families have increased 30%
  • Important Veterans Affairs programs have been paused
  • Over $36 million in FEMA emergency preparedness and disaster relief funding to address wildfire and flooding damage in Colorado is on hold.
  • Colorado's GDP is decreasing $289 million per week.

"Thankfully, President Trump has taken strong steps to pay our troops and protect the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. But the situation will continue to deteriorate until Congress acts. We strongly urge you to put Colorado first and support the clean, bipartisan funding bill to reopen the government. Until then, our constituents will continue to suffer because of your inaction."
