The event included contributions from the UCLG network, the municipality of Barcelona, the Raoul Wallenberg Institute and FRA.
FRA emphasised the benefits of using a human rights-based approach to promote social inclusion by recognizing everyone's entitlement to human rights, tackling the underlying causes of exclusion and discrimination, and nurturing a sense of belonging within the community. It also presented the FRA Framework for human rights cities and how it can help cities and regions to effectively integrate fundamental rights in city work.
Through inspirational presentations and working group discussions, participants shared methods, promising practices and tools on ways to better deliver on people's rights across a number of policy areas such as public transportation and urban development, healthcare, education, or social assistance.
FRA also met with a representative of the Municipality of Gdansk for an exchange of views on areas for cooperation in 2026 related to the EU Charter, democratic resilience and fundamental rights.
