The mayor of one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S., Mayor Joe Pizzillo, delivered his State of the City address to residents, community partners and local and state lawmakers on Wednesday, Feb. 4 in Goodyear. His message focused on his three 2026 priorities:
-
Public Safety: Goodyear will continue to invest in the people, training and tools that keep the community protected.
-
Capital Improvement Projects: The city will continue to carefully plan to expand infrastructure, improve mobility and support future development through Capital Improvement Projects, the importance of regional, state and local collaboration.
-
Quality Amenities: Whether it's parks, recreation centers, trails, arts and culture or family-friendly spaces - we will focus on developing new amenities to enhance everyday life in Goodyear.
"As we move into 2026, our focus remains clear, to grow thoughtfully, stay connected as a community and keep Goodyear a city we are proud to call home," said Mayor Joe Pizzillo. "Thank you for being part of Goodyear's journey and for all you do to make this city such a special place."
Mayor Pizzillo also presented three community awards:
-
Goodyear Citizen of the Year Award: Jeremiah Smith, a longtime Goodyear resident, is a nonprofit consultant who through his work and volunteer contributions has strengthened local organizations and brought people together to address needs ranging from housing to food access. Jeremiah has an unwavering commitment to serving others and helping Goodyear thrive through collaboration, compassion and action.
-
Goodyear Corporate Citizen of the Year Award: Factor is being recognized for its outstanding generosity and commitment to fighting food insecurity in our community. In November 2025, the company donated three fully stocked refrigerated vans to All Faith, Agua Fria Food Bank, and St. Mary's, along with a continued commitment to provide weekly pallet deliveries of meals to each partner. This support has made a meaningful difference for Goodyear residents and exemplifies what it means to be a true community partner.
-
Goodyear Youth of the Year Award: Shyanne Blair, an 11th-grade student at Estrella Foothills High School, is being recognized for her exceptional leadership and commitment to service. As the school's Interact Club, she volunteers her time with local charities, community events and service projects.
