DOVER, Del. (October 1, 2025) - The Delaware Office of Highway Safety (OHS), Delaware State Police, and local law enforcement partnered to conduct a Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Checkpoint on Friday, September 26, 2025, in New Castle County.
During the checkpoint, law enforcement screened 228 vehicles and made 5 DUI arrests. In addition, law enforcement made 12 other traffic arrests.
"These results reinforce the importance of DUI checkpoints as a proactive measure to keep our roads safe," said Jeff Horvath, Deputy Director of the Delaware Office of Highway Safety. "Every impaired driver removed from the road is a potential tragedy prevented. We remain committed to using enforcement, education, and community engagement to reduce impaired driving across Delaware."
The operation was part of OHS's ongoing efforts to reduce impaired driving and promote roadway safety during the fall season.
"Our goal is to prevent tragedies before they happen," said Lieutenant India Sturgis, Director of Public Information for the Delaware State Police. "DUI checkpoints are an essential part of our enforcement strategy. They allow us to identify impaired drivers and remove them from the road before they can cause harm. We appreciate the public's patience during these checkpoints and encourage everyone to make safe, responsible choices behind the wheel."
The Office of Highway Safety (OHS) is committed to improving the safety of Delaware's motoring public by focusing on behavioral traffic safety issues, such as impaired driving, seat belt use, speeding, child passenger safety, pedestrian and bicycle safety, motorcycle safety, and teen driving issues.
