FEMA Rental Assistance for Hoosiers

Release Number:
FEMA Fact Sheet 022
Release Date:
October 13, 2026

FEMA Rental Assistance may be available if you can't safely live in your home because of the August 2026 disaster. This assistance can help you secure temporary housing while your home is being repaired or replaced.

Apply for assistance, and FEMA will work with you to determine the assistance to best meet your housing needs. The fastest way to apply is online at DisasterAssistance.gov or for Spanish DisasterAssistance.gov/es. You may also call the FEMA Helpline 800-621-3362. If you use a relay service, you can give FEMA your number for the service.

FEMA rental assistance is decided on a case-by-case basis and is intended to cover the monthly rent amounts (including lot rent, if applicable) and cost of essential utilities such as electricity, gas, water, oil, trash and sewer. It does not include the cost of telephone, cable, TV or internet services.

Additional funding to pay for temporary housing may be available if more time is needed for home repairs or to move into a permanent dwelling. If you were initially approved for rental assistance, an application for continued temporary housing assistance will be mailed to you 15 days after the grant is approved. If you do not receive one, contact FEMA by calling 1-800-621-3362.
