Illinois 9 public meeting set March 25

BLOOMINGTON - The Illinois Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting March 25 about proposed improvements to Illinois 9/U.S. 150 in Bloomington. The meeting will be held:

4-6 p.m. March 25
​Eastland Suites Conference Center
​1801 Eastland Drive, Bloomington

The project limits are from Hinshaw Avenue at Mulberry Street north to Locust Street and then Locust Street east to Business U.S. 51, Lee Street from Locust Street to Empire Avenue and Empire Avenue from Lee Street to Business U.S. 51.

Proposed improvements in the $8.3 million project include:

  • Resurfacing of 1.3 miles of Illinois 9/U.S. 150 (Locust Street, Lee Street and Empire Street)
  • Curb, ramp and gutter replacement
  • New sidewalks, pavement marking and landscaping
  • ADA upgrades
  • Miscellaneous items as necessary

The public is invited to stop by at any time during the open house to view displays, ask questions and provide comments. IDOT staff will be in attendance, but there will be no formal presentation. ​ ​

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck as part of Rebuild Illinois, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Accomplishments through Year Six of Rebuild Illinois include almost $20.8 billion of improvements statewide to 21,309 lane miles of highway, 815 bridges and 1,181 additional safety improvements.
