Norton Rose Fulbright advises Optasia on acquisition of Finergi

Global law firm Norton Rose Fulbright has advised JSE-listed Optasia on its acquisition of Finergi Global FZCO (Finergi), a technology company providing innovative real time credit access solutions through prepaid electricity systems.

Finergi provides a platform that enables prepaid electricity meters to function as digital wallets, allowing customers to request short term credit via mobile channels, with repayment reconciled through their next top up. The model supports utilities by enhancing revenue assurance and reduces barriers to financial inclusion by enabling access to essential services without requiring a bank account or formal credit history.

The acquisition supports Optasia's strategy to broaden its reach and strengthen partner and product diversification.

The Norton Rose Fulbright team was led by London corporate partner Bayo Odubeko, with support from Daniel Femi-Alemede and Amira Nassar (Corporate, London), Michael Alliston, Guy Vouha, Chloe Mockel and Sdu Mhlonga (Tax), Mike Knapper, Lai Lynn Choong and George Hairs (IP), Jonathan Burton and Bita Mozafari (Corporate, Dubai) and Rudolph du Plessis and Matt Purves (Corporate, Johannesburg).

Bayo Odubeko commented:

"We are very pleased to have supported Optasia on this strategically important transaction. The acquisition of Finergi represents a major step in advancing Optasia's ambitions across energy linked financial inclusion markets, and it has been a privilege to work closely with the team throughout the process."
