National Preparedness Month - Review the key steps for emergencies

Published on September 29, 2025

Throughout National Preparedness Month, we have provided critical information and resources to address emergencies. The five key steps include creating a plan, assembling an emergency kit, getting trained, signing up for emergency alerts and engaging your community.
Residents are encouraged to:
  • Create family emergency plans
  • Stock disaster supply kits
  • Register for Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training and other free disaster classes through the Menlo Park Fire District
  • Sign up for SMC Alert and the City's Weekly Digest newsletter. Following the City's social media channels will also help keep you informed
  • Engage your community

Preparedness is stronger when neighbors support one another. By sharing resources, looking out for vulnerable residents and working together, we can build a more resilient Menlo Park.

You know your neighborhood best.

Which streets flood first during heavy rain? Where do power lines come down in windstorms? Which routes are blocked during emergencies?

Your local knowledge is vital for emergency planning. San Mateo County Emergency Management needs your insights to shape plans that work for our community.

Take the San Mateo County Emergency Management: Community Assessment Survey and help map the real challenges our neighborhoods face.

Together, we've got this - one neighborhood at a time.
