Attention Residents: Cast Your Vote for Denver's New Sidewalk Stamp!

DENVER - Denver's Department of Transportation and Infrastructure (DOTI) is calling all Denverites to cast a vote for their favorite sidewalk stamp design that will be featured as part of new sidewalk construction moving forward. People will have through Wednesday, September 30, to select one of five finalist designs. The individual or group who submitted the winning design will be awarded a $1,000 prize.

"Over the course of eight weeks in June and July, we received more than 240 stamp design proposals from Denver residents," said DOTI Executive Director Amy Ford. "It's clear the contest generated great excitement, bringing forth incredibly creative submissions. I look forward to seeing which stamp wins!"

Denverites who would like to participate in the stamp contest by reviewing and choosing their favorite design should visit denvergov.org/stampcontest and make their selection by 11:59 p.m. on September 30. The winner will be announced in fall.

"The people of Denver initiated and created Denver's Sidewalk Program, and we believe the new sidewalk stamp should reflect community desires as well," said Sidewalk Program Director Geneva Hooten. "The winning design will commemorate the spirit of Denver, and we look forwarding to celebrating its use as we embark upon a complete build-out of the city's sidewalk network over time."

The use of sidewalk stamps peaked in Denver between the 1950s and 1990s, often featuring the name of the contractor, the materials company, and year the sidewalk installation was complete. Building on that tradition, DOTI launched the sidewalk stamp contest to celebrate Denver's unique, new Sidewalk Program and unprecedented effort to build, repair, and maintain the city's sidewalks.

Sidewalk stamp design submissions that met the contest's requirements were reviewed by a 10-member panel representing a range of City leadership and community voices. The designs were judged on practicality, creativity, clarity, and connection to Denver. Five finalists were chosen to proceed to the public vote.

In 2022, Denver voters approved a citizen-initiated ballot measure to shift the responsibility of building and maintaining sidewalks from property owners to the City.
While spot repairs and bond-identified new sidewalk installations have been ongoing, DOTI is finalizing its first-ever Sidewalk Implementation Plan which will serve as a roadmap for building, widening, and repairing sidewalks across the city in the short and long term. The final Plan will be released in December.
