A Minute Read

PITTSBURGH, March 30, 2026 - U. S. Steel successfully restarted Blast Furnace B at its Granite City Works facility in Granite City, Illinois. The facility is now producing steel, following the Company's previously announced plans to bring the furnace online to meet customer demand.

Driven by customer demand and as part of the Company's ordinary course of business planning,
U. S. Steel began the process to restart the operation of one of two blast furnaces ("B") at Granite City Works in December 2025. As part of this restart, approximately 400 employees have been hired to support furnace operations.

"This restart reflects careful preparation and a focus on operating safely and reliably in a highly competitive and cyclical industry," said David B. Burritt, President and Chief Executive Officer of U. S. Steel. "As production resumes, our priority remains working closely with our employees, the United Steelworkers, and local leaders to support safe operations at the facility."
