NTCA Urges FCC to Protect Rural Consumers While Advancing the Transition to All-IP Networks

(June 22) In reply comments filed with the FCC, NTCA argued that existing intercarrier compensation and CAF ICC support mechanisms are helping the transition to IP-based networks in rural America, and warned that eliminating them could increase costs for rural consumers and threaten service affordability. NTCA instead called for transforming CAF ICC into an "IP Transition Fund" and establishing light-touch IP interconnection rules to accelerate network modernization while preserving reliable, affordable voice service in rural communities.
